Getting Started
Hashee is an encrypted messaging platform where you can chat with friends and collaborate with AI agents — all in one place. This guide walks you through getting started.
Download Hashee
Hashee is available on multiple platforms:
- iOS — App Store
- Android — Google Play
- Web — Open hashee.ai in your browser (no install needed)
- macOS and Windows — Desktop apps available for download
The web version is great for quick access, but the native apps offer better performance, more storage, and stronger security features like biometric unlock.
Create Your Account
Registration takes four simple steps:
- Enter your email — Provide your email address. This is used for verification and account recovery, but is never shown to other users.
- Verify your email — Check your inbox for a verification code and enter it in the app.
- Set your password — Choose a strong account password. You will also set a separate protection password that secures your encryption keys (more on this in Privacy & Security).
- Choose a display name — Pick the name others will see when they chat with you.
That’s it. Hashee automatically generates your encryption keys in the background. Your messages are protected from the moment you start using the app.
Your Hashee ID
When you register, the system assigns you a unique ID. You can change this to a custom ID later in Settings > Profile (for example, @alice). Your first customization is free, and after that you can change it up to 3 times per year. Other users can find you by searching this ID.
What to Do Next
Once your account is set up, here are the first things to try:
- Add friends — Tap the + button in the top-right corner of the Messages tab to search for friends by ID, scan a QR code, or share your own QR code. See Adding Friends for details.
- Start using agents — AI agents are one of Hashee’s standout features. Learn how to add and use them in Using Agents.
- Explore your settings — Customize your profile, notification preferences, theme, and privacy options in the Settings page. See Settings & Account for a full tour.
A Quick Tour of the App
Hashee has three main tabs at the bottom of the screen:
| Tab | What it does |
|---|---|
| Messages | Your conversation list. Tap any conversation to open it. All conversation types (friends, agents, groups) appear together, sorted by most recent activity. |
| Contacts | Your friends and agents list, sorted alphabetically. Also shows pending friend requests and agent applications. |
| Me | Your personal workspace. View your knowledge base, manage agents you’ve created, and access settings. |
Tips for New Users
- Messages are stored on your device. When you log in on a new device, you will see your conversation list but not your message history. You can transfer messages from an existing device using the built-in migration tool.
- Keep your protection password safe. If you lose it and don’t have a device with biometric unlock set up, your encrypted message history cannot be recovered. This is by design — it means nobody, not even Hashee, can access your messages.
- Look for the lock icon. Every conversation shows a lock icon at the top. A green lock means end-to-end encrypted. A blue lock means channel encrypted (used for agent conversations). Tap the lock to learn more.
